ASDC Southwest hires Olympian Steacy
September 1, 2009
Lethbridge, AB- The ASDC Southwest is pleased to announce the hiring of James Steacy as the Program Facilitator for the Centre. Steacy participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he was the first Canadian in over 80 years to participate in the hammer throw event.
Jim is a recent graduate of the University of Lethbridge, where he attained a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Kinesiology and Psychology. His experience as a high performance athlete lends well to the Centre he is now part of.
“Jim’s experience training and competing as a National level athlete makes him a perfect leader for our Centre programming.” Stated Travis Grindle, Executive Director of ASDC Southwest “He has been through the system and therefore is in a perfect position to lend that knowledge and expertise to the athletes and sport organizations of Southern Alberta.”
Steacy will oversee the delivery of a number of programs including the Athlete Enhancement Program (AEP). The AEP is the flagship program of the ASDC Network, aimed at providing high quality sports science programming to the elite high performance athletes in Lethbridge and the Southwest region. Additionally, Jim will oversee the deployment of the Centre’s biomechanical analysis services with Dartfish and coordinate the delivery of other Centre services, such as performance profiling, high performance training and fitness testing.
“This is a great opportunity for me to use my degree and pursue a career in sports, while I continue training for the next Olympics.” Said Steacy “I think I have some valuable insight into what it takes to be an elite athlete and I’m excited to share that knowledge and advice to help our emerging athletes achieve their athletic potential and dreams.”
Steacy’s first task is to get the Fall 09 Phase of the AEP program launched. Applications are now available and can be accessed through the ASDC Southwest website at www.asdcsw.ca.
The ASDC Network was established by the Alberta Sport Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation to coordinate and enhance services available to Alberta's emerging athletes and coaches. These regional centres provide services to athletes and coaches residing in rural and urban areas allowing athletes to develop and train at a high level without leaving home.
Primary funding for the ASDC Network is through partnership with the ASRPWF, which is a non-profit Crown Corporation supported by the Alberta Lottery Fund. ASDC Southwest is also a registered society and operates not for profit. This allows the Centre to offer programming and services at reasonable and accessible rates.
