ASDC Southwest releases Athlete Enhancement Program info

September 13, 2009

Lethbridge, AB- The ASDC Southwest is very excited to announce that the 2009 Athlete Enhancement Program application form is now available.

The ASDC is a provincially funded network of centres whose purpose is to coordinate and enhance the services and resources available to Alberta’s emerging athletes and coaches.

The Athlete Enhancement Program (AEP) program is the premium service of the ASDC Network, targeting the regional athletes that showcase the athletic potential to succeed at the provincial or national level. The program aims to provide these athletes with the necessary specialized support services to develop to their full potential.

The ASDC Southwest AEP athletes will receive non-technical coaching and support (including nutrition advice, specific exercise training, mental skills training, etc.) to improve their sport performance at no cost. The services are coordinated by an Athlete Enhancement Team (AET) that works together to assess the athletes current needs and create a development program for the athlete to follow. Jim Steacy will serve as the program facilitator, while Jennifer Spriddle will lend expertise in the areas of Sport Psychology and Mental Training Skills. Tim Takahashi is the third member of the AET team, bringing expertise in exercise physiology, injury prevention and drug awareness. High Performance assessment and training will be coordinated through Shawn Stead, HP manager at the U of L.
The next phase of the 2009-2010 program runs from September through August 2010.

The application forms and more information on the AEP program can be found on the ASDC Southwest website at www.asdcsw.ca.  The application deadline for the Fall ’09 phase of the AEP program is September 25th. For any questions or concerns, please contact ASDC Southwest Program Facilitator Jim Steacy at 403-320-5271 or e-mail: james.steacy@uleth.ca
